ReCon is one of the highlights of my graduate student journey and I hope other students can enjoy this awesome experience!

Hello! My name is Julienne and I am the President for ReCon IX.

My research interests include looking at the relationship between physical activity and/or exercise and mental health.

  • My research explores psychiatrists’ attitudes toward non-pharmacologic treatments for depression, particularly using physical activity and/or exercise as a form of therapy
  • I hope that the findings of my study will aid in the future programming and development of mental health services that improve individuals’ quality of life while reducing costs on the healthcare system.

WHAT is ReCon & WHY support it?

The Faculty of Kinesiology, Sport, and Recreation (KSR) holds an annual REtreat and CONference (ReCon) the weekend before the Fall semester. This event is run by students, for students. ReCon is the "kick-off" event before we start our graduate studies and I can confidently say that ReCon has positively shaped my graduate experience at the University of Alberta.

  • As a newcomer to Edmonton, ReCon let me meet my professors and peers in a welcoming environment.
  • ReCon is jam-packed with great social events and is the perfect opportunity to establish friendships!
  • ReCon showcases the diversity and high-quality research that KSR produces! The event provides an open, welcoming environment to present your own research and learn about others.

I sincerely hope you consider supporting this wonderful event, so the faculty continues to generate high-quality research through its students.

Thank you!
