ReCon set our graduate students up for success both within and outside academia.

As a 3rd year Ph.D. candidate, I have had the opportunity to attend ReCon five times. I have taken this opportunity all five times as I really enjoy this annual student conference hosted by graduate students in the Faculty of Kinesiology, Sports, and Recreation at the University of Alberta. I find that my perspective on how ReCon benefits the students who attend has broadened over my years of attending.

Students who attend and present at this conference get a unique opportunity to learn communication, organization, and leadership skills that the will bring to their work environment upon graduating. Further, professional development with focus on transferable skills is on the agenda every year. During these sessions students engage in activities tailored to develop important skills that are applicable in any career they may pursue in the future. Ultimately, I hold that ReCon fosters development of non-academic and academic skills that prepares the students to join the workforce, in academia and beyond.

In addition, ReCon provides an important social arena for new students to make friends that will help them succeed in their academic program, as well as for both new and returning students to build their professional and personal networks.

ReCon is hosted in the beautiful Rocky Mountains, allowing the attendees to take in some of the most beautiful scenery Alberta has to offer.

I hope you will consider supporting this event, allowing students to continue their development as academics and contributors to society.
